Relax, it’s just another Vampire Weekend.

The Vampire Weekend.

For all their notoriety, The Vampire Weekend are still pretty unknown. Hell, for all of the weekends that have passed since the band’s inception, they have yet to even put out a proper full-length. But alas, all vamp’s got to feed sometime & this one here is no different.

So, as of a few days ago, the boys have provided a brief sampler for us mere mortals, featuring tidbits of what is yet to come. This offering comes as a three-song EP. Which, if one is observant of their older releases, is rerecorded versions of songs that were feautured on a previous sampler. They are just that cruel.

But, when you listen to the EP itself, all of that is easily forgotten. The band lists African popular music and Paul Simon as their major influences, but what I mainly hear is something akin to what my mind thinks the Animal Collective might sound like - if someone stole all of their distortion and echo pedals and told them that “Grass” just wasn’t poppy enough. If “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” doesn’t make you feel like you are on an island, sippin’ fruity rhum cocktails… I don’t know what to tell you. You might want to visit a doctor & find out if you still got a soul tucked inside of yourself somewheres.

This is the sound of summer.

The Vampire Weekend EP can be purchased for mere $2.99 (!!!) from Other Music. And, while we sit and wait for the full-length, you can keep up to date on the stalkings over at their web-site or mySpace.
