We see the Ohsees.

Upon hearing the word of an Eric’s Trip reunion, a serious part of me began yearning for their lo-fi production. Man, it is no wonder why our recollections of the 1990s are so fuzzy. That’s just how the 90s rolled.

But! Before scouring the house for my old, scratched copies of Love Tara or Forever Again, I happened across the latest album from John Dwyer’s The Ohsees. And, while not nearly as distortion-laden as the Trip was, the fuzziness rears it’s head, in all its fuzzy glory.

The follow-up to 2006’s the Cool Death of Island Raiders, the album picks up the band’s story, post-mortem style. Entitled Sucks Blood, the album’s folk-noise meanders as only a 50’s zombified ex-surfer might.

Over twelve tracks, over the lo-fi fuzz, an attentive listener will find: a couple drones (facetiously dubbed ‘Untitled Drone #1′ and ‘Untitled Drone #2′), easy going rhythms, harmonized vocals & a whole lotta singing saw. Yup. Plus, if you order the album from the artist, you’ll even get some awesome homemade album art. Pretty classy for zombies, no?

slightly confused, but bloodthirsty:
The Ohsees - It Killed Mom.
The Ohsees - You Make Me Sick, Oh Yeah.
The Ohsees - Ship.

Sucks Blood can be purchased directly from the band and the digital-homeless Castle Face Records for only $12.00, postage paid. Just send the money via PayPal to castlefacerecords@hotmail.com, including yer address & format (CD or vinyl). For more information, you can also check the band’s myspace.

Zombies: they can Jig, too.

It’s not beyond me to imagine a world festering with the undead. Actually, my only concern if we did somehow co-exist with the undead would be: can they climb ladders? If the answer to that is a resounding “no” then it wouldn’t be so bad. We’d simply have to live in homes on stilts, like they do down south somewhere.

Now, there would come a point where even they, dilapitated and rotten as it were, would want to shake a limb. I mean really, how would they spend their evenings? Enter Zombie Bazooka Patrol. Finally, a band who can satisfy this niche, and in proper rockabilly fashion, no less.

Dig that member list:
Spy Zombie: Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, Virus Machines, Vocals
Toxic Zombie: Acoustic Guitar, Virus Machines, Worms, Vocals
Soul Zombie: Drums, Percussion, Vocals
Lieutenant Zombie: Bass, Vocals

As it stands right now, their Embrace the Transformation EP is only for sale direct at their gigs, and unfortunately they haven’t expanded that beyond Tennessee & Kansas. In the meantime, you can sample these two tracks, and maybe if you’re really itching for your Undead bretheren you could Zombie Walk down there?
